Elon Musk held a surprise question and answer session at the Festival of Technology and Culture in Austin, Texas. This festival is known as South by Southwest (SXSW) and is held annually. During the event, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX said his rocket could be making short trips to Mars in 2019.
In 2017, the businessman said he was working on a private investment that would seek to send a rocket to the red planet by 2022. The idea of SpaceX is to begin the process of human colonization on Mars.
In the midst of his surprise appearance at the SXSW, Elon Musk said that the first ship that would make the interplanetary trip was under construction “and I think we can make small trips for the first half of the next year”. ( video at the bottom of this article).
Likewise, according to the portal Zme science, the billionaire joked with the public about not raising much hopes of traveling to space. “Sometimes, my time is a bit, you know” he said while laughing.
Promises to travel to Mars by Elon Musk
Elon Musk said in 2017 that his expectations were to take passengers on long-distance trips. And that his goal was to do it in just 30 minutes. Likewise, he wants any person to be able to go anywhere in the world. And that these trips can be made in less than an hour for the price of an economic plane ticket.
The project has been called BFR (Big F-ing Rocket, as it was called by Musk). And the rocket will be partially reusable and could carry up to 100 people. The rocket would be larger than an Airbus A380. In addition to serving as transportation for people, it could move large loads of machinery. The rocket would be multifunctional between different countries and on international space bases. The company would also look to launch satellites.

Elon Musk ended his presentation by assuring that SpaceX will achieve its goal. Likewise, he affirmed that other companies are welcome to follow his steps. Since the idea is the progress of humanity with a view to colonize Mars in this generation.
